HSDO ACTIVITIES

HOSPITAL MATERNITY EXPANSION BUILDING

In July 2021, HSDO was happy to deliver a newly completed extension of the Dalaba Hospital Maternity. This new building comprising 4 new rooms and 12 beds will drastically improve conditions for expectant and new mothers who up to this point had to stay in one tiny overcrowded room, sometimes sleep on a cot on the floor or be hospitalized in other sections of the hospital.

This was achieved thanks to generous donations from HSDO supporters in Africa, Europe and North America.  Learn more.

DIABETES AND CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASES: AWARENESS BUILDING, TESTING  & PREVENTION

In November 2020, HSDO partnered with the Guinean Diabetes Foundation and the country’s Ministry of Health and funded a campaign of community information and pop-up testing sites for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in the city of Dalaba.

The need for such actions is all the more pressing that those two pathologies are increasingly prevalent and are often silent killers because many of those affected do not know they are at risk or even ill until it is too late.

75% of diabetes cases remain undiagnosed in Guinea and during this particular campaign many of those tested learned for the first time they had the illness.

Our objective is to replicate similar campaigns in other cities and regions of Guinea. Learn more.

STOP COVID-19 MAMOU REGION

At the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, our group wanted to do something to help and we decided to focus our efforts on supporting health care workers in particular because they are at the front lines of the fight.

The location chosen for this action was a region in central Guinea, West Africa where we knew the need was dire.

A campaign was quickly put together and with generous donations from HSDO supporters located in Africa, Europe and North America, we were able to provide what the health care workers on the ground told us they needed the most:

— hand washing kits for hospitals and community health centers;

— food supplies for healthcare workers and their families

Learn more here about this campaign that supported and helped motivate 500 healthcare professionals in several areas of the Mamou region of Guinea.
